Shop local in Denver this holiday season.  The idea of shopping local is a growing trend thanks to neighborhood campaigns along with national Shop Local campaigns like the one being run by American Express right now.  How important is it to your neighborhood to shop local, especially during the holidays?  A 2008 study by Civic Economics revealed that of every $100 spent at a locally owned, independent merchant, $68 returns to the community through taxes, payroll and other expenditures.  This number drops to $43 per $100 for purchases at retail franchises and is nearly half that for online expenditures with very little if any returning to your local community.

The numbers for Black Friday are out and it looks like spending was up 6% over last year, which

The Holiday time in Denver can certainly be a magical time of year.  With snow falling and plenty of activities throughout town, it is pretty easy to get in the Holiday Spirit.  Starting the season off with a bang is Jingle and Mingle on Tennyson Street in the Berkeley District.

From December 1st to 12th, any purchase of $5 or more made at a participating merchant works as instant registration in a drawing to win one of more than fifty gift cards. The more you shop, the more likely you are to win, and if you don't, you're still guaranteed a happy shopping experience.  Make sure to check out all the shops from 38th to 44th on Tennyson for specials and samples of what will be given away.

On December 11th and 12th, merchants will offer extended

Buying a home in Highlands.  What does it involve?  That was the question I asked since it has been 5 years since I bought my last home.  I have bought rental property since, but for the first time in five years that I am going through the process again not only as an agent, but as a buyer.  And let me tell you, things sure have changed.

When your full time job is to help people buy and sell a home, you can't help but gain a different perspective about the entire process.  My job as a Real Estate Agent is to not only help find the right home for my buyers, but more importantly, help them make it from the time of contract to close when their earnest money is on the line and so many variables can come up.  Along the way, I find myself not focusing as

dogandcat_400As we continue to read about the challenging economy and the increasing foreclosure rates another statistic goes hand in hand, families having to part with their beloved family pet due to the cost. The shelters are filled with additional animals due to abandonment, or many times, families bringing them in with no other place to turn. The situation exists across the nation.

As we approach the holidays, please count your four-legged blessings and pick up an additional bag or can (or 2) of cat or dog food  for those in need-  The Pet Food Drive continues from December 3rd - December 17th at two drop off sites (see below). Food Bank of the Rockies will distribute the food to families in need and channel the food through additional agencies such as Meals on…

How is the Denver market doing?  Building on good news relayed this week by one of our nation's leading Economist, a new report on luxury homes sales in Denver shows sales up 26% over last year at this time according to insiderealestatenews.com.  Why is this important and why are we seeing million plus dollar home sales of late?  It is important because it shows high end buyers are getting back into the market and exhibiting confidence in Denver real estate that this level of buyer hasn't shown in the years past.

Another big reason for more luxury sales of late can be attributed to more money becoming available.  One would think that with these super low interest rates, buyers would be scooping up these luxury homes as quickly as possible since the

Yesterday I had the privilege to hear an economic report on the nation from one of the top economist in the country, Dr. Lawrence Yun, lead economist for the National Association of Realtors.  My initial thought, along with the few people who I told I was going to hear a talk on the nations economy was, "that will be depressing."  But to my surprise, and to great relief, I actually walked away from the talk feeling the best about our economy I have felt in years, especially Denver's economy and housing market.

I heard Dr. Yun speak about two years ago and looking back over the notes I had taken at that time, I was amazed about how accurate his predictions turned out to be.  He predicted the recession, the low, low interest rates, and also a leveling off

re_symbols-5_179Facebook, my email box and the local news is all abuzz about Denver Recycling's announcement it will now start recycling plastic cups and tubs marked with the #5. Apparently its big news!

Denver Recycle participants can simply place clean yogurt cups and other plastic tubs, marked with the #5, in their residential recycling cart. Denver Recycles will collect and deliver the materials to Waste Management’s regional recycling facility for processing and sorting. From there, this plastic can be repurposed for various products, including toothbrushes, new food packaging and even traffic lights.

The addition of plastic #5 cups and tubs to Denver’s recycling program was made possible through the cooperative efforts of Yoplait ®, Waste Management

I fell in love with this beautiful homelocated at 2892 Cherry Street in Park Hill at the curb. Situated high on a generous corner lot in one of Denver' s most coveted neighborhoods, the classic brick construction, extra roomy front porch, and amazing HUGE front door had me hoping for the best inside. I was not disappointed.

The beautifully xeriscaped front garden with just enough grass to play, and a flagstone patio big enough for adirondack chairs and a firepit create the perfect place to chat with the neighbors, greet guests, and relax with a big mug of coffee or tumbler of wine.

Walking through the over-sized front door, you will be surprised by the open layout and generous size of the living room, dining room, and stunning gourmet kitchen.
