denver artists: how do i love thee? let me count the ways...

Posted by Jodi Gallivan on Wednesday, May 16th, 2012 at 4:58am.

as a part of my interest in design, i developed a passion (perhaps an addiction) for art.  while it can be a wall filler, art also allows you to express you personality in your home.  and lucky for you, the denver art scene is amazing--the talent pool is deep, the artists are accessible, and the galleries aren't stuffy. this will be the first of a handful of periodic posts that feature denver galleries/art events. i chose to feature pirate: contemporary art (www.pirateartonline.org) first as it is where i first saw the work of wes magyar in 2001. wes remains my favorite denver artist.

pirate

pirate: contemporary art is an artists cooperative in northwest denver at 3655 navajo street. while the artist members have changed over time, pirate: contemporary art remains edgy and interesting.

wes magyar "template" - as i mentioned, wes remains my favorite denver artist, and i never tire of seeing this painting in our home. for more information about wes, visit www.wesmagyar.com.

julie puma - julie is a long-time denver artist and teacher. patsy's is an 80+ year family-run italian restaurant on the same block as pirate: contemporary art. please note that patsy's is family friendly--there is not actually a giant naked woman lying on its roof. for more information about julie, visit www.rmcad.digication.com/jpuma/Welcome.  for more information on pasty's, visit www.patsysinn.com/patsysinn/Welcome.html.

julie puma no. 2 - i believe the man in the painting is julie's father, but i've always thought he looked like one of my favorite singer/songwriters jim croce.

marie evb gibbons - i first saw marie's work at pirate: contemporary art in 2001, and while we do not have any of her pieces in our collection, i have followed her with interest since then and have visited her studio at 4343 west 44th avenue in northwest denver. she has an open studio policy and also offers classes. i encourage you to visit her studio or sign up for a class.

marie evb gibbons - i like the organic look and feel of these wall pods and think they would make a great installation piece if purchased in large quantities. for more information about marie, visit www.mariegibbons.com/mariegibbons/marieEvBgibbons/Welcome.html
