don't forget that first friday art walks are tomorrow!
Posted by Jodi Gallivan on Thursday, May 31st, 2012 at 3:37pm.i've been doing periodic posts on individual galleries and art districts, but since the artist talent pool in denver is so deep, it will take me a while to get to them all in such detail, so i wanted to do a quick post to remind you that a number of first friday art walks will be held tomorrow tonight. while the gallery and studio hours vary, most are open between the hours of 6p and 9p. the art walks are a great way to spend a friday night in denver, and who knows, maybe you'll develop a new artist crush...

first stop: the art district on santa fe - www.artdistrictonsantafe.com. this art walk tends to get busy, so if you want to hit a few art walks, i'd suggest going on the early side.

the show to which i'm most looking forward at the art district on santa fe this month is "taos contemporary" at metro state college of denver's center for visual art at 965 santa fe drive - www.metrostatecva.org/. the show actually opens tonight (5.31.12) with a public reception from 7p-9p.

second stop: golden triangle museum district - www.gtmd.org. while i encourage you to visit the clyfford still museum (www.clyffordstillmuseum.org) and the denver art museum (www.denverartmuseum.org), both of which are located in the golden triangle museum district, skip them this friday and head to the galleries instead.

my favorite gallery in the golden triangle museum district is william havu (www.williamhavugallery.com). among other talented artists, they represent tracy felix - www.felixfineart.com/Tracy.htm, an artist who expresses his love for the western landscapes that most of us in colorado share. the picture above is of mount sopris, which is located at the northwest end of the elk mountains in western colorado and was named for richard sopris, a former mayor of denver.

third stop: river north art district aka "RINO" - www.rivernorthart.com.

do not miss the opening of jenny morgan's - www.jennymorganart.com - "kith and kin" show at plus gallery - www.plusgallery.com. in 2003, jenny graduated from the rocky mountain college of art and design with a bfa and has since moved to and earned an mfa in nyc. in 2006, jenny's work was selected for inclusion in the prestigious outwin boochever portraiture competition at the smithsonian institute's national portrait gallery in washington dc.
fourth stop: navajo street art district - www.navajostreetartdistrict.com.

make sure to check out the last weekend of next gallery's - www.nextartgallerydenver.com - juried group show "mindpool 2012."
last stop: at this point, i know you're probably getting tired, but just one last stop at the tennyson street art walk - www.denverartwalk.squarespace.com.
while there, please stop in at marie e.v.b. gibbons studio - www.mariegibbons.com/evbstudio - for a mini workshop where you can create your own clay bug. as my husband can attest, i've had an artist crush on marie since the early 2000s when i first saw her work at pirate: contemporary art. the crush grew when i visited her studio a few years back, met her, and was embraced by her warmth and generosity.
please have fun and be safe. and after you're through with the art walks, stop in at one of denver's fabulous local joints--parisi, billy's inn, cafe brazil, lola, root down, linger, forest room 5, colt & gray, etc.--for a cocktail and a bite.
